Systems Engineer Application for Andros Innovations
Location: Boston, MA | Type: Full-Time
The Mission: Retire The Haber-Bosch Process.
Humanity relies on the Haber-Bosch process to feed 4 billion people, but it consumes ~1% of the world's energy and spews gigatons of carbon dioxide. At Andros, we are building the reactor to end this dependency. We are developing a decentralized, low-pressure ammonia synthesis platform to decarbonize the future of food and fuel. We need a Systems Engineer who loves to build. You will take P&IDs and CAD models and turn them into functioning hardware. You are the bridge between the digital design and the physical skid.
The Role
You will operate at the intersection of Mechanical Design and Process Integration. While the Senior Engineers define the architecture, you execute the build. You will be responsible for modeling sub-systems in SolidWorks, sourcing components, assembling the pilot skids, and running the initial validation tests.
What you will actually do:
Design & Detail: You will create detailed CAD models for reactor skids, piping assemblies, and structural frames using SolidWorks. You ensure that every bolt, bracket, and valve fits before we order metal.
Component Sourcing: You are the master of the Bill of Materials (BOM). You will spec and source valves, pressure regulators, and fittings from vendors (Swagelok, McMaster, specialized suppliers) and manage lead times.
Hands-on Assembly: You don't just sit at a desk. You are in the bay assembling the skid. You bend tubing, install sensors, and torque flanges.
Validation & Testing: You will draft and execute test plans for leak checking, pressure proofing, and subsystem validation. You verify that the hardware meets the safety and performance specs.
Maintain Documentation: You ensure that the physical reality matches the documentation. You manage red-lines on P&IDs and update the CAD to reflect "as-built" changes.
Safety Support: You actively participate in safety reviews (HAZOP) and ensure that all assembly work complies with our safety standards.
Must-Haves:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Chemical Engineering (2-4 years of experience, or a portfolio of significant hardware projects).
CAD Proficiency: You are fluent in SolidWorks (or equivalent). You know how to make clean drawings and manage large assemblies.
Hardware Instincts: You have built things that work under pressure (literally). You understand fittings, seals, and material compatibility.
The "Fix It" Mindset: You enjoy troubleshooting mechanical and fluid systems.
Nice-to-Haves:
Experience with fluid systems (gas or liquid) or thermal management.
Familiarity with GD&T and fabrication processes (machining, welding, sheet metal).
Basic knowledge of instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers) and how to wire them.
Why Andros?
Solve a Century-Defining Challenge: You will be working on one of the most significant hurdles in modern thermodynamics: breaking the nitrogen triple bond efficiently. This is not incremental optimization; it is a fundamental shift in how the world produces energy and food. Your work will directly contribute to decarbonizing gigatons of carbon dioxide emissions.
Technical Ownership & Autonomy: As a senior technical leader, you will not just execute a roadmap; you will define it. You will have the authority to make critical engineering decisions, from equipment selection to system design, without the administrative bottlenecks found in large chemical conglomerates.
The Deep Tech Frontier: You will be working at the cutting edge of chemical manufacturing and systems engineering. We are deploying novel hardware systems that move beyond standard industry practices. You will have access to the resources and tooling required to bridge the gap between theoretical chemistry and industrial application.
Mission-Driven Velocity: We operate with the urgency that the climate crisis demands. You will join a lean, high-caliber team where iteration cycles are measured in days, not quarters. We value rapid hypothesis testing, data-driven decisions, and scientific rigor.
Meaningful Equity: We believe that the engineers building the future should share in the value they create. As a key early member of the technical team, you will receive a competitive equity package that aligns your long-term incentives with the company’s success.
