Senior Systems Engineer Application for Andros Innovations
We're solving the hardest problem in chemistry, and we can't do it alone. We're looking for scientist, engineers, builders, innovators and connectors to join our mission.
Location: Boston, MA | Type: Full-Time
The Mission We have the catalyst. We have the chemistry. Now we need the system.
As the Senior Systems Engineer, you are the Chief Architect of our Pilot Plant. You will bridge the gap between the PhD chemists and the physical reality of steel, valves, and control loops. You will take our technology from a tabletop experiment to a continuous, integrated pilot unit that runs 24/7.
You are not just drawing P&IDs; you are owning the safety, reliability, and operability of a first-of-its-kind ammonia reactor.
What You Will Own
Pilot Design: Lead the P&ID development and detailed engineering for our next-generation pilot systems (TRL 5-7).
Balance of Plant (BoP): Design the thermal management, gas delivery, and product separation subsystems that make the reactor work.
Safety Leadership: Lead HAZOP and PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) reviews. You are the final line of defense for process safety.
Simulation: Use process modeling tools (Aspen, HYSYS, or Python) to validate mass and energy balances before we cut metal.
Vendor Management: You don’t just buy parts; you manage relationships with EPC firms and fabricators to ensure our pressure vessels and skids are built to spec and on time.
Who You Are
BS/MS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of experience in process systems, pilot plants, or petrochemical facilities.
A Builder: You have taken a process from a blank sheet of paper to a commissioning ceremony.
Regulatory Pro: You know ASME B31.3, NFPA, and NEC codes, but you also know when to apply "Startup Scrappiness" vs. "Corporate Over-Engineering."
Ammonia Aware: You respect the hazards of working with toxic and flammable gases and design systems that fail safe.
Cross-Functional: You can explain a pressure drop calculation to a chemist and a project timeline to the CEO.
Bonus Points
Experience building modular or skid-mounted chemical systems.
Experience with Technoeconomic Analysis (TEA) for chemical processes.
About Andros Innovations
Andros Innovations is a pioneer in advanced chemical engineering, redefining the global ammonia supply chain to fuel a decarbonized future. Our proprietary reactor technology disrupts the century-old Haber-Bosch process, enabling the efficient production of low-carbon ammonia at low temperatures and atmospheric pressure, unlocking a scalable path to green fertilizer and sustainable marine fuel.
Supported by Activate.org, Greentown Labs, Third Derivative, Massachusetts Center for Clean Energy and others Andros has been recognized as a top emerging deep-tech startup within our first year. Andros has received awards from MIT’s Climate and Energy Prize, Yale’s Climate Innovation Summit, The University of Connecticut and FORGE, for innovation and climate impact. We are transitioning from breakthrough science to industrial scale, building the technology needed to feed the next billion people and power the heavy industries of tomorrow without emissions.
