Senior Catalyst Engineer Application for Andros Innovations

We're solving the hardest problem in chemistry, and we can't do it alone. We're looking for scientist, engineers, builders, innovators and connectors to join our mission.

Location: Boston, MA | Type: Full-Time

The Mission: Ammonia supports modern life, but its industrial production (the Haber-Bosch process) consumes 1% of the world's energy and emits 2% of anthropogenic CO2 emissions annually (500M+ tons of CO2). We are changing that.

Andros is commercializing a novel reactor that produces ammonia at atmospheric pressure and low temperatures, breaking the thermodynamic limits that have constrained the industry for a century.

As the Senior Catalyst Engineer, you will not just characterize materials; you will own the "Heart of the Reactor." You will lead the synthesis, testing, and scale-up of our proprietary catalytic materials from gram-scale lab discovery to kilogram-scale pilot deployment. You will work directly with the CEO and CTO to translate fundamental chemistry into a commercial reality.

What You Will Own

  • Catalyst Strategy: Define and execute the roadmap for improving catalyst yield, stability, and lifetime under dynamic operating conditions.

  • Scale-Up: Lead the transition of catalyst synthesis from the beaker (grams) to the pilot reactor (kilograms) without losing performance.

  • Reactor Testing: Design and oversee rigorous testing campaigns to validate kinetic models and long-term durability.

  • Characterization: Manage internal and external characterization workflows (BET, XRD, TEM, Chemisorption) to understand failure modes and drive rapid iteration.

  • Mentorship: Guide junior engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of rigorous scientific inquiry and safety.

Who You Are

  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science with 5+ years of experience in heterogeneous catalysis.

  • A Builder: You have synthesized materials that have actually been tested in a reactor or process.

  • Deep Tech Native: You understand the difference between TRL 3 (Lab) and TRL 6 (Pilot) and know how to bridge the gap.

  • Expert in Kinetics: You can look at reactor data and immediately distinguish between mass transfer limitations and kinetic limitations.

  • Unflappable: You are comfortable with the ambiguity of a seed-stage startup.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with ammonia synthesis, hydrogenation, or nitrides.

  • Experience scaling solid-state synthesis techniques (ball milling, combustion synthesis).

About Andros Innovations

Andros Innovations is a pioneer in advanced chemical engineering, redefining the global ammonia supply chain to fuel a decarbonized future. Our proprietary reactor technology disrupts the century-old Haber-Bosch process, enabling the efficient production of low-carbon ammonia at low temperatures and atmospheric pressure, unlocking a scalable path to green fertilizer and sustainable marine fuel.

Supported by Activate.org, Greentown Labs, Third Derivative, Massachusetts Center for Clean Energy and others Andros has been recognized as a top emerging deep-tech startup within our first year. Andros has received awards from MIT’s Climate and Energy Prize, Yale’s Climate Innovation Summit, The University of Connecticut and FORGE, for innovation and climate impact. We are transitioning from breakthrough science to industrial scale, building the technology needed to feed the next billion people and power the heavy industries of tomorrow without emissions.
